How can we help?
Quick answers about escrow, fees, releases and refunds, disputes, merchant accounts, and the Payluk API.
Getting started & everyday questions
Does Payluk support my use case or business model?
Payluk holds money in escrow and releases it when a condition is met. It works for marketplaces, services, e-commerce, property and other legal deals.
How does the Payluk escrow flow work?
Create an escrow, the buyer funds it, the seller delivers, and the money is released when the buyer confirms or the claim window passes.
What are Payluk’s fees?
The escrow fee is 2.5% for personal accounts and 2% for merchants. Withdrawals cost a small flat fee plus VAT, and bank-transfer deposits are free.
How are sellers and providers paid?
Released funds land in the seller’s Payluk balance straight away. Sellers then withdraw to any Nigerian bank account.
Does Payluk support milestone payments?
Yes. Split an escrow into two or more milestones and release each one as its stage is completed.
How do onboarding and KYC work?
Personal users verify their identity in tiers, starting with BVN. Merchants also submit business documents for approval.
How can customers pay into escrow?
Customers can pay by bank transfer to a temporary account, by card, from their Payluk wallet, or with cNGN.
Which currencies and countries does Payluk support?
Payluk processes payments in Nigerian naira (₦), plus cNGN, the naira stablecoin. USD isn’t supported yet.
How quickly are funds released and paid out?
Releases credit the seller instantly. Bank withdrawals start straight away and usually arrive within minutes.
Who holds the escrow funds?
Escrow funds are held with CBN-licensed partner banks and are only released according to the escrow’s rules.
What happens when a transaction is cancelled?
Unpaid escrows can be deleted. Once an escrow is funded, cancelling goes through a dispute that ends in a full or partial refund.
For businesses & marketplaces
For developers
Does Payluk have an API, and how does integration work?
Yes. The REST API and Checkout SDK let you create escrows, collect payment, release funds and handle disputes from inside your own app.
Release, refunds and disputes through the API
Merchants can release funds, open disputes and resolve them as a full release, a full refund or a partial (split) refund, all through the API.
Is there a sandbox or test environment?
Yes. Use your sk_test_ key against the staging API to test the full escrow flow with test money, a test bank and testnet cNGN.
Webhooks, status tracking and reconciliation
Payluk sends signed webhooks for escrow and payment events, and the API lets you look up escrows, balances and transaction history.
How are security and authentication handled?
API requests use secret bearer keys, webhooks are HMAC-signed, and you can whitelist the IPs allowed to call your account.
